Teacher charged with sexual assault

GALVESTON, TX Rebecca Ann Bramlett, 33, the former Engligh Language Arts teacher at Baines Middle School in Missouri City was arrested Friday morning.

Bramlett was a Ft. Bend ISD teacher until she resigned this week after telling a deputy that she was having an "affair" with one of her students.

Her booking photo was taken Friday morning after detectives arrested Bramlett at a home in Galveston belonging to her family.

Authorities say the former Baines Middle School English teacher and one of her students have had an ongoing sexual relationship for months.

"It's going to be several locations we believe the actual activities occurred, including at her residence," said Chief Craig Brady with the Ft. Bend County Sheriff's Office.

Her home is less than a mile from the school. Investigators say, that the two would meet at the house after school when her husband and children were away, never during the school day.

Investigators say Bramlett admitted to this relationship voluntarily last weekend during a traffic stop near Arcola at 1:30am. Incident reports indicate the teen was in her car, that she told the deputy he was her boyfriend.

The fact that the suspect is a woman and the alleged victim a boy, authorities say in the eyes of the law, makes this no less of a crime.

"Age is the only thing that matters," said Chief Brady. "Sex of the victim has no bearing."

Bramlett's bond was reduced Friday morning from $500,000 to $46,000. Once she bonds out, she will have to wear an ankle monitor until at least her next court appearance.

Bramlett refused our request for an interview from jail and her attorney so far has declined to comment.
