Former pastor's comments anger Obama

HICKORY, NC Obama told reporters today in North Carolina that he's also "saddened" by what he calls a "spectacle" that the Reverend Jeremiah Wright engaged in yesterday during an appearance at the National Press Club in Washington.

He says Wright is offering conspiracy theories and other ideas that go against who Obama is and what he stands for.

In three days of public appearances in the last four days, Wright has been combative, accusing his critics of attacking the black church, and bringing more attention to an issue that Obama had hoped was dying down.

Obama had earlier defended Wright, while taking issue with some of his statements. But he now says, "The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago." And he says Wright's comments do not accurately portray the perspective of the black church.
