Cops on hunt for girl's assault suspects

SOUTH HOUSTON, TX This happened in the area of Shaver and Vista in South Houston late yesterday afternoon. Shaver is a busy street, and the fact that this attack happened in broad daylight shows how brazen a crime it was.

Authorities say a 17-year-old student from South Houston High School was walking across the street and approaching a fast food restaurant, when two men in a white Camry approached her.

"According to her, they pulled up and were asking her questions. They wanted to avoid her. So the passenger jumped out, grabbed her by the waist, dragged her into the car and they took off from there," said Chief Herbert Gilbert with the South Houston Police Department.

Police say they drove the girl about a half mile, pulled behind a grocery store on 15th Street, and that's where the girl was sexually assaulted. The victim says the men then threw her from the car, and she walked to her home at this apartment complex.

Officials are warning both students and citizens to walk in groups, be aware of their surroundings, and report any suspicious activity.

The victim gave police a vague description of the men. Police describe them as two Hispanic men in their 30s or early 40s. The driver was missing a front tooth. The vehicle used in the attack was a white Toyota Camry.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the South Houston police department.
