Students work on I-Fest artistic mural

HOUSTON At Yates High School, students who've never before taken an art class were drafted into the mural project that follows this year's festival theme of 'Out of Africa.' The guiding force is Houston artist and muralist Emineah, who's known for his flamboyant dress and colorful work. He created the portraits on the mural of both people and the African landscape. The students created the borders.

Yates 9th grader Bria Davis said, "It was like, 'Wow' after hearing him speak about all this imagination that we had with the whole painting. None of us thought it would turn out to be like this."

The mural was created in only two weeks and will be the backdrop for the festival's main performing arts stage at city hall. I-Fest opens April 19, and continues for two weekends.
