UH softball sweeps Southern Miss

HOUSTON UH (27-4, 5-0 Conference USA) used two home runs in the second inning of the second game to defeat Southern Miss 7-2.

Freshman Jennifer Klinkert and senior Angel Shamblin each recorded home runs for UH. Klinkert's home run was her eighth of the season, while Shamblin has two.

Freshman pitcher Baillie Lott (5-1) allowed seven hits, three runs, five walks and four strikeouts. Shamblin earned the save entering the game in the seventh inning to get the final three outs of the game.

In the first game, junior Christa Raley hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 13-2 victory over the Golden Eagles. It was the Coogs' third grand slam this season.

Shamblin (15-2) got the victory, giving up only two hits, two runs and striking out four.

Houston will finish the series vs. Southern Miss on Saturday at 1pm.
