Five killed in logging truck wreck

WOODVILLE, TX Another girl riding in the car, 13, was in critical condition at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston after the pre-dawn Monday crash on a rural East Texas highway, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis said.

Davis said the SUV was making a left turn from FM 92 onto U.S. 190 near B.A. Steinhagen Lake when the logging truck slammed into it, knocking it into a pickup truck.

Davis said she had no other details about the accident, other than those in the car were headed "to some vacation."

Killed were Walter Stokes, 67, and wife Joyce Stokes, 69, both of Lumberton; Harvey Cunningham, 78, and wife Joy Cunningham, 76, both of Silsbee; and Mykell Racy, 7, of Spurger, who was the Stokes' granddaughter. The hospitalized teenager is Mykell's sister, Davis said.

The drivers of the logging truck and the pickup did not appear to be injured, Davis said.

The crash happened about 10 miles east of Woodville, which is about 100 miles northeast of Houston.
