Students join Dynamo star in fighting obesity

HOUSTON Siblings Gabrielle and Peter Shaddock will present a check for over $1,000 during the Region 9 AAU Taekwondo Championship, co-hosted by Young Brothers TKD and Elite Taekwondo. The event will be held at Butler Sports Complex in Houston on Saturday at 9am.

They raised money for the Gifts with Heart playground to benefit children at the Southeast Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority facility. Two-time Olympic Taekodno Gold Medalist Steven Lopez, U.S. Olympic Taekwondo coach Jean Lopez, and world champion siblings Mark and Diana Lopez are expected to attend Saturday's event.

Peter Shaddock, a sixth-grader at Pershing Middle School, and his sister, Gabrielle, a fourth-grader at Roberts Elementary, have been active in soccer and Taekwondo.

"I want to help promote sports and fitness to others and show how being physically fit can help in life," Gabrielle said. "I want to have fun and improve the fitness of others by example," Peter said.

The Brian Ching Team's objective is to spread passion for sports and give children a chance to become educators and advocates to fight childhood obesity.
