School district decides to cut jobs

HOUSTON Friday night, the school board voted on a plan to immediately terminate 25 employees and sell off several pieces of school property. The Texas Education Agency says the district was looking at a $17 million debt by August.

"This district is in dire straits right now," said Ron Rowell Texas Education Agency. "It has to take immediate action."

Mary McWorter with the Forest Brook PTA said, "Whatever decision we make, let's make it whatever benefits the children."

The district expects to save more than $7 million. Another plan, yet to be decided on, would consolidate four campuses into two and would cut 200 more jobs.
