Free legal help for Houstonians

HOUSTON The HBA's Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, in cooperation with the Houston Bar Association, will add a special Tax LegalLine to the lineup of call-in legal advice programs in March. The "Tax-A-Thon" will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The public can call 713-759-1133 to speak to an attorney knowledgeable in tax law. The volunteers will answer tax-related questions, give brief advice on tax issues and provide additional resources for more information.

The HBA's regular LegalLine programs will be held on Wednesday, March 5 and on Wednesday, March 19, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Consejos Legales, for Spanish-speaking callers, will be held on Thursday, March 6, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Vietnamese LegalLine will be held on Tuesday, March 18 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Volunteer attorneys offer free legal advice over the telephone as a public service. The additional "Tax-A-Thon" will provide the public with information on tax issues prior to the April income tax filing deadline.
