A driver crashed into a barricade then jumped a bayou overnight. It happened on Wheatley near Dewalt in northwest Houston. Firefighters had to cut the male driver and his female passenger out of the crumpled front end of the car. Both were taken to the hospital in critical condition with multiple injuries.

Rescuers originally went to the wrong side of the bayou. They crossed on ladders to reach the truck.

Investigators say speed was a factor in the crash. The driver didn't see the dead end in time to stop.
