"Careless Crew" sought in bank robberies

HOUSTON The FBI Houston Bank Robbery Task Force is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the members of the "Careless Crew," a group believed responsible for six area bank robberies. This group is deemed particularly dangerous because they have exclusively robbed banks located within area grocery stores. This dramatically increases the number bystanders who run the risk of great harm as the crew carelessly brandishes an AK-47 assault rifle during each robbery.

The most recent robbery occurred yesterday afternoon at the First Convenience Bank located within the Kroger grocery store at 12620 Woodforest Boulevard. According to witnesses, at least two rounds were fired from the AK-47 rifle during the robbery.

At approximately noon, two men entered the Kroger store and proceeded toward the bank which is located inside. Both had their faces completely covered. One was carrying the assault rifle and kept watch on customers and employees as the second jumped over the teller counter and demanded money from the teller drawers. Both men threatened to kill anyone who didn't comply with their orders. It is not known why the rifle was fired during the robbery.

The "Careless Crew" quickly grabbed the cash and fled the bank. Some witnesses reported seeing them flee in a white van, and others describe the vehicle as a silver Dodge Durango. A stolen silver Dodge Durango was located in the vicinity after the robbery.

The robbers are described as follows:

  • #1. (Jumped counter) Black male, unknown age, 6'00" tall, medium build. He was wearing a black "beanie" hat, black hooded jacket, black pants, and black tennis shoes. He wore dark colored gloves and sunglasses and carried a dark cloth bag.
  • #2. (Carried assault rifle) Black male, in his twenties, 6'00" to 6'05" tall, 170 to 250 pounds, slender to athletic build, dark brown complexion. He was wearing a dark ski mask, dark sweatshirt jacket with hood, white bandana covering face, dark pants, and possibly boots. He carried a black assault rifle.
  • Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the charging and arrest of the "Careless Crew" or any felony suspect. If you have information about this case, call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or your local FBI office.
