Possible school attacks thwarted

HOUSTON On Friday, February 8, a tip came in that a student at Pasadena High School was making threats to blow up the school. Law enforcement officers acted quickly, and a subsequent search turned up bomb-making equipment at the student's home. Christopher Young, 18, was arrested and charged in the 208th District Court with Possession of Components of an Explosive Device.

On Monday, February 11, a tip came in that a juvenile student at an HISD high school had a weapon in his backpack. Once again, law enforcement officers acted quickly, and took a .380 caliber handgun from the student.

The Crime Stoppers of Houston Safe School Program has been implemented in 265 area Middle and High schools in 21 area school districts, including HISD. The prime focus of the program is to prevent and solve crimes involving weapons, bomb threats, gang activity and narcotics on the school campus.
