A fight broke out at a federal prison in central Pennsylvania on Monday, forcing a lockdown and sending eight inmates to the hospital. No guards were hurt in the melee at Allenwood Federal Prison's medium-security facility, said Traci Billingsley, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. She did not known the nature or extent of the inmates' injuries.

The fight started around 5:15 p.m. but was quickly brought under control, she said. The prison was locked down, she said.

"At no time was there any threat to the community," she said.

The prison has about 1,400 inmates; there are also low- and high-security prisons on the site. The prison sits in a sparsely populated area 10 miles south of South Williamsport, where the Little League World Series is played.
