Clemens, a Texas fastballer just like Ryan, is deciding whether to accept an invitation to appear next week at a Houston Astros clinic: The Nolan Ryan Elite Pitching Camp.
Ryan pitched for Houston from 1980-88 and now serves as a special assistant to Astros general manager Ed Wade.
In last month's Mitchell Report on performance-enhancing drugs in baseball, Clemens' former trainer, Brian McNamee, said he injected the pitcher with steroids and human growth hormone in 1998, 2000 and 2001, accusations the seven-time Cy Young Award winner has denied.
Clemens' lawyer has said he will appear before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee at a Feb. 13 hearing on steroids in baseball. Clemens was asked to speak Saturday to committee staff, one of five depositions or transcribed interviews scheduled by the committee before the hearing next month.
Ryan spent 27 seasons in the major leagues with the New York Mets, California Angels, Astros and Texas Rangers from 1966-93. He threw a record seven no-hitters, won 324 games and established marks for most strikeouts in one season (383 in 1973) and in a career (5,714).
Ryan was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999 on the first ballot.
