Dangerous bank robbers on the loose

HOUSTON (KTRK) Detectives call these bank robbers "very violent." They say on at least five occasions a group of men have entered Houston area Kroger stores and gone straight to the banks. They have held guns to peoples' heads and even pointed guns at children.

The men often run to the Kroger stores between 9:15 and 9:30am and go straight to the First Convenience Banks inside. They often work in teams. Sometimes as many as three go inside the bank. There's also a getaway driver.

The suspects cover almost their entire bodies, wearing big pants and hooded sweatshirts, with bandannas over their faces. The men carry all types of gun – sometimes putting them right to the heads of tellers.

Detectives say these men are organized and they often make threats.

Sgt. Robert Schobey with the Harris County Sheriff's Department said, "They've pointed the guns directly at men, women, children, telling everybody to get on the floor. They completely take over the environment when they enter the store. They have one person walking back and forth between the front of the store and the bank, ensuring that everybody is remaining on the ground."

The robberies began in May last year. The robbers struck a bank in a Kroger on Woodforest in east Houston. Since then, they've struck again every month to month and a half, or so. Most recently the men struck in Spring.
