Along with her husband, Lester Smith, Sue has pledged her support to numerous causes. Among those, a partnership with Baylor College of Medicine was formed for the fight against prostate and breast cancer, a mobilization for volunteers and increased support of the College and a role as co-chair of the Baylor Gala for four years through 2010. Additionally, the Houston Museum of Natural Science has found its4elf an ally in the Smiths, noting increased membership and attendance records in addition to funding for a number of outstanding exhibitions. Most recently, Sue successfully co-chaired the Houston Chronicle Best Dressed 25th Anniversary Gala benefiting the March of Dimes.
In addition to ballroom dancing, in which she and her husband are champion competitors, Sue enjoys yoga, needlepoint, collecting art and antiques and growing orchids in her greenhouse.
