Suspect slams into tow truck

A suspect trying to get away from police crashed into a tow truck in southeast Houston.The chase began when an officer spotted a car traveling at least 100 miles an hour on the Gulf Freeway feeder road near Almeda Mall. Minutes later, the officer lost sight of the car, and gave up the chase.

When police spotted the driver again, he had already crashed on FM2351 near Beamer. The car slammed into the back of a wrecker, nearly ripping off the top of the car.

The driver was flown to the hospital in critical condition. A female passenger was not hurt. She's being questioned by police.

The driver of the tow truck was not injured.
