Rice runs out of gas

HOUSTON Marshall trailed by as many as nine points late in the first half, but outscored Rice 37-14 in the second half en route to a win in the Conference USA opener for both teams.

The win snapped a five-game road losing streak for the Thundering Herd.

Dorris led four players in double figures for the Herd (9-4, 1-0). Markel Humphrey, Matt Walls and Darryl Merthie each added 10. The Owls (3-11, 0-1) got 10 points each from Suleiman Braimoh, Paulius Packevicius and Rodney Foster.

Rice turned the ball over 21 times, and Marshall took advantage, scoring 30 points off the miscues. The Owls did not score a bucket in the last 4:23 of the game.
