Man told 911 dispatcher he had killed his wife, deputies say

STAFFORD, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities have identified the 45-year-old Stafford-area man who was arrested and later admitted to stabbing his wife to death during an argument.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says Jair Rodriguez is behind bars on a first-degree homicide charge.

According to deputies, the suspect called 911 telling the dispatcher that he had killed his wife, Doris.

Authorities arrived at the residence at Waterstone Place Apartments on Stafford Springs just after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Doris was pronounced dead at the scene.

More than two years ago, Doris Rodriguez filed for divorce. According to court documents, she asked a judge for a temporary restraining order, pleading to keep him from verbally attacking her with "vulgar, profane, obscene, indecent or threatening" language.

Those documents indicate Jair Rodriguez at one point had moved out and that they were arguing over custody of the children and child support. Their divorce was never finalized.

"You would have never thought...I would have never thought," said Judith Espaderos, who used to teach their kids in Sunday school at church. She said Doris Rodriguez was always so patient with the kids.

"I'm really, really shocked. I just found out about the news," Espaderos added.

The couple's two kids were not home at the time.
