HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A carjacking suspect is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following the end of a high-speed chase, deputies said.

According to investigators, the suspect carjacked the driver of a red pickup truck near FM 1960 and Cali Road. At West Road and I-45, the suspect slammed into two other vehicles at the intersection.

The suspect fled on foot to a nearby gas station where he shot himself, deputies said.

"It was a miracle that no other people were hurt," Deputy Thomas Gilliland added. "Especially the way he was driving and trying to get away from law enforcement."
