HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The 29th annual McDonald's Houston Children's Festival has been canceled due to the severe weather threat for the area.

Event organizers released a statement about Sunday's cancellation:

"After careful consideration, the McDonald's Houston Children's Festival will cancel today's activities," said Tony Terwilliger, Festival Director. "As a benefactor for Child Advocates, we stand for the safety of children and families. We hope that while some may be disappointed, all will agree that safety is our number one concern."
