HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The most exciting thing about the Houston Texans and the NFL draft is that the team has a quarterback and a core to build around. Now, the Texans have another threat on the offensive side of the ball.

After trading up from the No. 22 pick to No. 21, the Texans selected Notre Dame wide receiver Will Fuller.

"I'm gonna be the hardest working guy. All I want to do is win," Fuller told abc13's Greg Bailey.

Houston has a total of seven picks in the NFL Draft. The Texans have two in the fifth round and one in every other round, except the seventh.

But, has it really been 14 years since David Carr walked across the stage and into Bob McNair's handshake deal to lead his new franchise? Since then, 13 more selections have held up a Texans jersey as the top pick and smiled into an uncertain future.

In 2003 Andre Johnson cried.

Before becoming the most productive offensive player in Texans history. Brian Cushing sported a different look in '09.

"Personally I felt I was the best linebacker in the draft," Cushing said.

Injuries altered his career, but Cushing's still a franchise cornerstone. The Texans would eventually select one of the top players in NFL history.

"Worked at Pizza Hut for six months. Walked on to the Badgers in June. Played on the scout team for a year," J.J. Watt said.

Five years into his career, Watt is already one of the most accomplished players in the league.

"He brings an edge that people don't want to run to his side and that's how I want to be on the other side of the ball," Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins said.

Jadeveon Clowney, selected in the 2014 NFL Draft, has started just 11 games in two injury riddled seasons.
