HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A young man was killed overnight in an apparent drive-by shooting in northeast Harris County.

Authorities found the victim's body in the parking lot of a gas station around 1:30am on Uvalde near Woodforest.

Eyewitnesses told deputies the victim and his friend were attempting to cross when someone drove by and started firing, hitting one of the young men.

Friends and family have identified the 17-year-old victim as Roy Jones, a Furr High School student. They describe him as a quiet kid.

Investigators say two men in a dark-colored sedan drove up to where the young men were standing and opened fire, hitting Jones at least once.

Deputies are still looking for the gunman.

As for a motive, deputies are trying to determine whether this was random, a robbery or whether the young men here were targeted.
