Child found after being missing overnight; grandmother charged

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A young boy was missing overnight and now his grandmother is facing charges.

Police say Christopher Young, 7, had last been seen in the 16800 block of Amy Ridge Road at around 8pm Thursday after his grandmother dropped him off to play basketball with friends. The grandmother, identified as Phyllis E. Smith, 53, didn't recall where she dropped the child off. Smith has been charged with child abandonment and has been booked into the Ft. Bend County Jail.

Shortly after noon Friday, police said they found the child, but didn't elaborate on details.
